Tummy time is one of baby’s first exercises and it is the most important! This is the period during the day when your baby is awake and on their stomach. Tummy time is a crucial exercise for a baby's motor, visual, and sensory development. Babies do tummy time throughout their first year of being born. It is important to have at least an hour of Tummy Time total per day by 3 months of age. This hour of Tummy Time can be broken up into short and separate time frames. From the age of a newborn, start with a few minutes at a time and build up into longer sessions. Eventually, try to do longer sessions building up to a full hour.
Once the baby begins crawling around 7 months, they will be experiencing the developmental benefits of Tummy Time while moving, when they get to this point, it is not as essential to have them do Tummy Time.
